Idineklara ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte na ang taong ito, 2020 ay "Year of Filipino Health Workers" bilang karangalan sa pakikipaglaban sa COVID-19 pandemic.
Sinabi ni Pangulo sa Proclamation No. 976 na nilagdaan niya noong Hulyo 6 ay naglalayong kilalanin bilang "invaluable" contributions of health workers sa bansa para sa patuloy na pakikipaglaban sa COVID-19.
Saad nito, "There is a need to commemorate the immeasurable acts of heroism and selfless compassion of nurses, midwives, and all health workers, and give due honor to those who sacrificed their lives in the line of service, especially during this extraordinary time,"
Ayon sa datos ng DOH ay hindi bababa sa 34 ang mga Filipino health workers o frontline ang namatay dahil sa coronavirus.
Sa ilalim ng proklamasyon ni Duterte, tungkulin ng Department of Health na pamunuan ang buong bansa sa pagsunod sa Year of Filipino Health Workers.
Gayunman, hinihikayat ang mga media companies na bumuo ng programa tungkol sa awareness at public support para sa mga programa at aktibidad na may kaugnayan sa Year of Filipino Health Workers.
