“It’s a very nice event kasi not only nirerenew niya po yung competitive edge ng athletes but also it’s something to look forward to after more than a year of training virtually, most especially yung mga teammates ko po who experienced hiatus in competitions,” pahayag ng 2nd year IPEA Sports Management student-athlete, na umaasang muling makapaglalaro sa 31st Southeast Asian Games sa Hanoi, Vietnam sa Nobyembre 21-Disyembre 2 sa sports na Kurash, kung saan nagwagi siya ng bronze medal sa heavyweight division sa nagdaang 2019 biennial meet sa bansa. “As of now po, the situation is very indefinite in terms of competitions but if given an opportunity to be able to compete in the upcoming competitions and SEAG, I will definitely strive in order to get a great outcome,” paliwanag ni Sy, na nanalo rin ng bronze medal sa 2017 Singapore meet sa women’s judo under-78kgs category.
Matatandaang noong isang taon ay nakamit ng 82nd UAAP Rookie of the Year awardee ang bronze medal sa 2020 World Sambo Championships noong Nobyembre sa Novi Sad, Serbia nang talunin nito si Evadne Huecas ng Spain sa senior’s division sa kasagsagan ng matinding pananalasa ng mapanganib na Covid-19.
