Isang Philippine Army general at miyembro ng Philippine Military Academy (PMA) Class of 1989 ang nasawi dahil sa COVID-19.
Ayon kay Major General Ernesto Torres, Army chapter president ng PMA class ’89, si Brigadier General Bagnus Gaerlan, assistant commander ng 1st Infantry Division ay pumanaw na ngayong Lunes nang umaga dahil sa coronavirus.
“It is with deep sadness that we would like to inform the friends and relatives of our mistah, BGen Bagnus Gaerlan PMA 89, that he succumbed to the deadly COVID virus early this morning,” pahayag ni Torres.
Batay sa ulat ng Western Mindanao Command, si Gaerlan ay namatay sanhi ng acute respiratory failure secondary to COVID pneumonia.
Idineklarang nasawi si Gaerlan bandang alas-5:19 ng madaling-araw ni Dr. Anatalio E. Cagampang Jr., ang head ng ospital ng Zamboanga Del Sur Medical Center.
Isinugod sa ospital si Gaerlan noong Setyembre 2 matapos na magpositibo sa antigen test sa COVID-19, habang nagpositibo muli sa RT-PCR test naman noong Setyembre 3.
Sinabi ni Torres na si Gaerlan ang ikaapat na miyembro ng kanilang class, matapos nina Jun Unson, Danny Olay at Allan Cordova na dahil sa COVID-19 aniya, “they drop their working tools.”
“For those who wish to pay their last respects, details of interment will be posted as soon as obtained,” ani pa ni Torres.
