Kinumpirma ng Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) na nagkaroon ng isang phreatic eruption o pagsabog ang Mount Pinatubo ngayong Martes ng hapon.
Unang nai-report ng ahensiya ang pagkaroon ng seismic at infrasound signals ng bahagyang pagsabog ng bulkan.
“Based on visual reports of an eruption plume and seismic, infrasound and satellite detection, DOST-PHIVOLCS confirms that a phreatic eruption occurred at Pinatubo Crater between 12:09 and 12:13PM,” ayon sa PHIVOLCS hinggil sa latest update sa nasabing bulkan.
Sa inilabas na advisory ng PHIVOLCS, nakumpirmang ang phreatic eruption ay nangyari matapos ang mga ginawang aktibidad ng mga militar sa lugar.
“The event was also confirmed to have occurred after ordnance disposal activities by the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines), which has no relation to the condition of the volcano, on the northern flanks of Pinatubo conducted prior noon today,” paliwanag ng PHIVOLCS.
Gayunman, sinabi ng PHIVOLCS na wala namang report na pagkakaroon ng ashfall mula sa mga komunidad na malapit sa lugar.
“So far, there [have] been no reports of ashfall from communities of Zambales over which the eruption plume dispersed,” sabi ng ahensiya.
“Considering that there has been very low seismic activity in the volcano in the past days and low diffuse volcanic CO2 flux measured at Pinatubo Crater Lake, and high infrasound over seismic energy released by the eruption, the event was likely driven by shallow hydrothermal processes beneath the edifice,” pahayag ng PHIVOLCS.
Panawagan naman ng PHIVOLCS na iwasan muna ang mag-travel sa loob ng bisinidad ng Mount Pinatubo.
Pinayuhan na rin ng ahensiya ang local government units na ipagbawal ang pagpasok ng sinuman sa paligid ng Pinatubo Crater, anila “as shallow phreatic or hydrothermal explosions may occur again without warning.”
Gayundin, paalala ng PHIVOLCS sa mga komunidad at LGUs na naninirahan malapit sa paligid ng bulkan na maghanda sa posibleng paglindol at volcanic hazards.
