Itinaas sa Alert Level 1.. Mount Bulusan sa Sorsogon, nag-alburoto — PHIVOLCS

Naitala ang pagsabog ng Mount Bulusan sa Sorsogon ngayong Linggo ng umaga, ayon sa Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).

Agad na itinaas ng PHIVOLCS ang alert status ng Bulusan Volcano sa Alert Level 1 (low-level unrest) mula sa dating 0 (normal). “Alert Level 1 status is now raised over Bulusan Volcano, which means that it is currently in an abnormal condition,” pahayag ng PHIVOLCS.

Ayon kay PHIVOLCS Director at Science Undersecretary Renato Solidum Jr., naitala ang phreatic eruption ng alas-10:37 ng umaga at tumagal ng 16 minuto.

“Kanina, nagkaroon ng phreatic eruption ang Bulusan Volcano... ‘Yung pagsabog ay sanhi ng pagpapakulo ng tubig sa ilalim ng crater. Tumagal ito ng 16 minutes at patuloy natin itong sinusubaybayan,” sabi ni Solidum sa isang radio interview ngayong Linggo.

Sa isang bulletin kalaunan, na inisyu ng alas-11:40 ng umaga, sinabi ng PHIVOLCS na ang eruption ay tumagal ng humigit-kumulang sa 17 minuto, habang isang steam-rich grey plume na umabot sa isang kilometrong taas ang naobserbahan mula sa munisipalidad ng Juban, bago ito pumailanglang pakanluran.

“Hindi naman kataasan ang taas ng pagsabog. May mga maitim o dark gray na eruption cloud na nakikita na umuusli sa crater nito na hindi naman kataasan. Posible itong mangyari sa Bulusan (Volcano) na madalas magkaroon ng phreatic eruption,” saad ni Solidum.

“With the ongoing activity ng Bulusan, magtataas tayo ng Alert Level 1 [we will raise it to Alert Level 1],” sabi ni Solidum na aniya pa, napansin din nila na tumaas ang bilang ng volcanic earthquakes ng bulkan na umabot sa 77 beses sa magdamag.

Ayon pa sa PHIVOLCS, “a phreatic eruption refers to a steam-driven explosion that occurs when water beneath the ground or on the surface is directly heated by hot rocks or new volcanic deposits (e.g. pyroclastic density currents, lava) or indirectly by magma or magmatic gas.” Nakapagtala naman ng ashfall sa Juban at Casiguran, sabi ng PHIVOLCS.

Sa report ng Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO), apat na barangay sa Irosin ay nakaranas din ng ashfall. Paalala naman ni Solidum sa mga residente, dapat nang iwasan ang four-kilometer radius ng permanent danger zone dahil lubhang mapanganib sa nasabing lugar sa ngayon.

“Furthermore, people living within valleys and along river/stream channels especially on the southeast, southwest and northwest sector of the edifice should be vigilant against sediment-laden stream flows and lahars in the event of heavy and prolonged rainfall should phreatic eruption occur,” pahayag pa ng PHIVOLCS.
