Illegal na nagbebenta ng P50M giant clam shell, nasakote

Nakumpiska ng Philippine National Police (PNP) ang P50 million halaga ng endangered giant clam shells o “taklobo” sa Bayawan City, Negros Oriental noong Biyernes.


Kinilala ng awtoridad ang suspek na si Ricarido Santiana Dela Cruz, Jr. at inaresto sa entrapment operations na isinagawa ng Crime Investigation and Detection Group RFU 7 Negros Oriental PFU, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, Bayawan City Police Station, Negros Oriental Police Provincial Office (NOPPO) at 1ST Provincial Mobile Force Company, NOPPO.


Ibinebenta ni Dela Cruz ang 1,000 kg ng giant clam shells (taklobo) sa halagang P5 million sa pulis na nagpanggap na kostumer. Narekober ng awtoridad mula sa suspek ang entrapment money; 1,000 kg ng taklobo na bahagi ng total inventory na tinatayang aabot sa higit-kumulang 10,000 kilos na nagkakahalagang P50 million; isang cal. 45 Colt pistol; isang magazine ng cal. 45 pistol; at 7 live ammunition para sa cal. 45 pistol.


Pahayag ni PNP Chief Police General Debold Sinas, "This accomplishment ensures that the sustainable conservation and protection of fishery and aquatic resources law is being implemented by our local authorities.”


Ayon sa awtoridad, isang Yan Hu Liang, alias Sunny, ang nagmamay-ari ng endangered giant clam shells na tinatayang aabot sa international market value na P918 million.


Sina Dela Cruz at Yan Hu Liang ay haharap sa kasong paglabag sa Fisheries Code sa ilalim ng Administrative Order 208 o "Conservation of rare, threatened and endangered fishery species." Kasalukuyan nang nasa kustodiya ng Bayawan City Police Station si Dela Cruz habang si Yan Hu Liang naman ay hinahanap pa ng awtoridad.
