Hinamon ng Department of Education (DepEd) ngayong Linggo si presidential candidate Sen. Manny Pacquiao na pangalanan nito ang mga opisyal sa kanilang hanay na umano’y sangkot sa korupsiyon.
“As a public servant, the good senator has every right, legally and morally, to assail and put to question whatever wrongdoing, any person or instrumentality of the government for that matter in his quest to eradicate graft and corruption in the bureaucracy,” ayon sa DepEd sa isang statement.
“Therefore, it is a moral duty for the good senator, being a candidate for the highest office in the land, to name names, or identify and not rely on generalities to put down the whole institution of the Department of Education,” dagdag na pahayag ng ahensiya.
Sa isang interview ng KBP-COMELEC PiliPinas Forum 2022 na ipinalabas noong Mayo 6, binanggit ni Pacquiao na mayroon aniyang, irregularity na sangkot ang isang DepEd official, subalit tumanggi itong pangalanan.
“Diyan sa DepEd, may kakilala ako diyan. Hindi pumapayag na bumababa ng 40% ang mapunta sa kanya,” sabi ni Pacquiao.
"Hindi na ako magsabi... pero maniwala kayo sa akin na ipakulong ko lahat ng mga kawatan diyan. Wala akong pipiliin kahit ano’ng posisyon mo,” saad ng retiradong boxing champ.
Gayunman, iginiit ng DepEd na ang pag-atake sa reputasyon ng buong institusyon ay lubhang mapanganib o anila, “very dangerous” at maaaring makaapekto sa impresyon ng publiko sa integridad ng nalalapit na electoral results.
“While there might still be bad eggs within the organization, the leadership of the Department has seen fit to charge these known implicated and remove those found guilty,” ayon sa ahensiya.
“To allege wrongdoing, unsupported by specific facts or without naming names, is tantamount to false accusation,” giit pa ng DepEd.
Samantala ayon sa ahensiya, mahigit sa 647,812 teaching at non-teaching DepEd personnel ang magseserbisyo para Halalan 2022 sa Lunes, Mayo 9.
