Ibinasura ng pamahalaan ang proposal na pagsuspinde sa 2022 national elections dahil sa COVID-19 pandemic.
Ayon sa Palasyo, may sapat pang panahon sa paghahanda sa eleksiyon at hindi umano rason ang pandemya upang i-postpone ito.
Saad ni Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, “The National Election is still two years away and we still have sufficient time to prepare.
“We must not use the existing global health crisis as a ground to cancel and reschedule the elections as this would not sit well with the public.”
Si Pampanga Rep. Mikey Arroyo ang nanghimok sa Commission on Elections (Comelec) na iurong ang 2022 national polls sa naganap na budget hearing ng naturang ahensiya para maiwasan ang pagkakasakit ng mga botante ng COVID-19.
Pahayag naman ni Roque, “The holding of elections is a public service that the government must ensure to deliver. The idea to postpone the 2022 elections, if and when it happens, presents constitutional challenges.”
