Nakikipag-ugnayan na ang gobyerno sa US drugmaker na Pfizer hinggil sa pagbili ng antiviral COVID-19 pill, ayon kay Health Secretary Francisco Duque nitong Miyerkules.
Ayon kay Duque, nakikipag-talakayan na ang team ng DOH kay Philippine Ambassador to the US Jose Romualdez at sa Pfizer representatives hinggil sa pagbili ng Paxlovid.
“Pinagusapan na ano ang pinakamabilis na pamamaraan na maka-secure tayo ng treatment course of Paxlovid,” ani DOH chief sa isang public briefing.
Sinabi rin ni Duque na inatasan na niya ang Food and Drug Administration (FDA) na pag-submit-in ang Pfizer ng emergency use authorization (EAU) sa paggamit ng Paxlovid sa sandaling pumirma na siya ng confidentiality agreement para sa pagbili ng naturang gamot.
“We are proactive, I reassure you that we are doing everything. And I’ve already instructed FDA to make sure that after I’ve signed the confidentiality disclosure agreement they should already prod Pfizer to already apply for an EUA. We need to go through the process,” ani Duque sa Go Negosyo forum.
Matatandaang sinabi ni Duque na mas mataas ang efficacy rate ng Paxlovid kumpara sa Molnupiravir.
Noong Disyembre 22, binigyan na ng authorization ng Estados Unidos ang Paxlovid para gamitin sa mga batang edad 12 pataas.
Ayon naman sa clinical trials ng Pfizer, ang Paxlovid ay may 90% efficacy rate para maiwasan ang pagkaka-ospital at pagkamatay ng pasyente na may COVID-19.
“There are other treatment options I believe where the report of effectiveness is relatively much higher, an example of which is Paxlovid,” ani Duque.
“We continue to assess and evaluate the data because bago kasi lahat ito eh, just as Omicron is new, there are also new treatment modalities or options that will need continuing assessment or evaluation because you also have to be mindful of the potential adverse effects or side effects of these untested drugs and medicines,” dagdag pa niya.
