Binigyan ang Philippine national basketball team ng mahaba-habang pahinga kasunod ng kanilang matagumpay na kampanya sa nagdaang 32nd Southeast Asian Games sa Cambodia.
“Unang-una, pahinga muna kami, that's very important,” ani Reyes sa recent interview ng Pasada sa Teleradyo.
Pero matapos ang 2 weeks break, magbabalik sa kanilang pagsasanay at preparasyon ang nationals para sa FIBA World Cup 2023. “We're planning the resumption of practice on June 1,” saad ni Reyes. “We're putting together the final details of the training camp sa Europe and some tune up matches.”
Nais ni Reyes na sumailalim ang tropa sa matinding traning sa ibang bansa dahil makakalaban nila ang Italy, Angola at Dominican Republic sa group stage ng world competition.
Magsisilbing co-host ang Pilipinas ng Indonesia at Japan simula sa Agosto 25. “We will make announcements pag na-finalize na ang schedule, but for now the resumption of practice on June 1.”
Naninindigan pa rin naman si Reyes na buo na ang kanyang pasya na huli na niyang coaching ang Cambodia SEA Games 2023. “The Southeast Asian Games is really for younger players, younger coaches developmental players. I have made up my mind that this will be my last Southeast Asian Games,” aniya.
Magarbo na, ayon kay Gilas Pilipinas head coach Chot Reyes sakaling mapagsama ang mga naturalized players na sina Justin Brownlee at Jordan Clarkson oras na makasali ang men’s national team sa FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 roster. “The reason why they’re both there (in the pool) is because of their skills, and the other intangibles that they bring to the table,” saad ni Reyes. “We love the fact that we have that luxury of choosing from both of them, and we’ll see what happens.”
