Idineklara ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang Davao City bilang ‘Chocolate Capital’ ng Pilipinas at ang kabuuan ng Davao Region bilang ‘Cacao Capital’ ng bansa ngayong Huwebes.
Sa Republic Act 11547 na nilagdaan ni P-Duterte, nakasaad na kinikilala ng batas ang halaga ng cacao dahil sa pagpapataas nito ng export earnings ng bansa.
Nakasaad din sa naturang batas na “(Cacao) put the name of the country in the map for producing the finest chocolate beans.
“(Cacao) provided livelihood to many small farmers in the countryside.
"In recognition of its status as the country’s biggest producer of cacao and its vital contribution in making the Philippines world renowned and sought after by chocolate makers from the US, Japan, and Europe, the City of Davao is hereby declared as the Chocolate Capital of the Philippines and the entire Region XI (Davao Region) as the Cacao Capital of the Philippines."
Samantala, noong 2019, nakapag-produce ang Davao ng mahigit 2,289.74 metric tons ng cacao, ayon sa agriculture department nu’ng Setyembre.
