Pumanaw na si dating Deputy Speaker at Cebu Governor Pablo “Pabling” Garcia sa edad na 95. Nagpahayag ng pakikidalamhati ang House of Representatives sa pamilya at mahal sa buhay ni Garcia na nagsilbi sa panahon ng 8th, 9th, 14th at 15th Congresses.
“The House of Representatives, led by Speaker Lord Allan Velasco, mourns the demise of former Deputy Speaker and Cebu Rep. Pablo ‘Pabling’ P. Garcia,” ayon sa statement ng Kamara. “Our prayers and heartfelt sympathies to the family and loved ones he has left behind, especially to his son and our colleague in the 18th Congress, Deputy Speaker Pablo John F. Garcia,” dagdag pa nito.
Sa hiwalay na pahayag, sinabi ni Velasco na mananatili sa alaala ng marami ang mga nagawa ni Garcia para sa bayan. “He was a devoted public servant who dedicated two-thirds of his life to public service -- an extraordinary feat worthy of emulation,” ani Velasco.
“Cebu and the entire nation lost an exceptional public servant admired for his diligence, intelligence and integrity,” sabi pa. Naglingkod si Garcia bilang governor ng Cebu mula 1995 hanggang 2004.
Nagsilbi rin siya bilang vice-governor mula 1969 hanggang 1971. Nakilala rin si Garcia na isang trial lawyer, law professor at respetadong constitutionalist. Naulila niya ang kanyang mga anak na sina Gwendolyn, Deirdra, Winston, Byron, Farla at Pablo John, 27 apo at 18 apo sa tuhod.
