Dating CBCP president Lagdameo, pumanaw na

Pumanaw na ang dating presidente ng Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) na si Archbishop Emeritus Jaro Angel Lagdameo ngayong Biyernes, Hulyo 8, sa edad na 81.


Sa isang social media post, kinumpirma ng Archdiocese ng Jaro, Iloilo, ang pagpanaw ng kanilang retired prelate.


“Archbishop Angel Lagdameo returned to our Creator just this 8:30 AM at the age of 81. Let us include him in our prayers and masses,” sabi ng diocese.


Nagsilbi si Lagdameo bilang CBCP president mula Disyembre 2005 hanggang Disyembre 2009. Bago rito, siya ay CBCP vice president para sa dalawang termino ng apat na taon.

Ang archbishop ay dati ring chairman ng Office of Laity of the Federation of Asian Bishops’ Conferences.


Sa CBCP, nagsilbi naman siyang chairman ng Episcopal Commission on the Laity mula 1990 hanggang 2000.


Na-ordained bilang priest si Lagdameo para sa Diocese of Lucena noong Disyembre 19, 1964. Habang na-appoint na auxiliary bishop ng Cebu noong Hunyo 1980.


Noong Enero 1986, na-designate siya bilang coadjutor bishop ng Dumaguete, at naging bishop ng diocese noong Mayo 1989.


Naging archbishop ng Jaro si Lagdameo noong Marso 11, 2000.


Noong 2018, tinanggap naman ni Pope Francis ang resignation ni Lagdameo sa edad na 77.
