Pumanaw na ang veteran constitutionalist na si Fr. Joaquin Bernas ngayong Sabado, ayon sa Ateneo de Manila University (ADMU) School of Law.
Kinumpirma ni Ateneo Law School Dean Jose Maria G. Hofileña sa isang memo ang pagpanaw ni Bernas.
Saad ni Hofileña, “The Ateneo Law School community mourns the passing of its Dean Emeritus, Fr. Joaquin G. Bernas, S.J. in the early morning of March 6, 2021.
“We take solace in the knowledge that this was an earthly life filled with meaning and purpose. An earthly life dedicated to service, to standards of excellence, to the greater glory of God.
“Indeed, a man, an excellent man, for others.”
Dagdag pa ni Hofileña, “He has contributed immeasurably to keeping the Ateneo Law School true to its identity and calling. The Ateneo Law School’s debt of gratitude to Fr. Bernas can never truly be fully repaid.
“May he rest in God’s unceasing care.”

Si Bernas ay miyembro ng 1986 Constitutional Commission. Siya ay nagtapos ng abogasya sa Ateneo Law School noong 1962. Noong 2004 ay ginawaran siya ng titulong Dean Emeritus ng naturang paaralan.
Nakapagtapos din si Bernas ng Master’s Degree in Philosophy sa Berchmans College, degrees in Licentiate of Sacred Theology sa Woodstock College, at Master of Laws and Doctor of Juridicial Science sa New York University.
