Alamin: Mga puwedeng gawin sa face shields na hindi na ginagamit

Ngayong niluwagan na ang restrictions kontra-COVID-19 at kamakailan lamang ay inanunsiyo ng pamahalaan na hindi na mandatory ang pagsusuot ng face shields, ano nga ba ang maaaring gawin dito?


Dagdag-problema na ngayon sa plastic waste ang face shield na madalas ay itinatapon na lang kung saan-saan.


Noong una pa lamang ay tutol na ang environmental groups sa paggamit ng face shields dahil dagdag polusyon lamang daw ito sa ating bansa.


"There is no way that you can safely process it, and then keep it that will not harm the environment because it will. A typical plastic in a face shield that we are using will last 500 years in the environment," ani Ramon San Pascual, Executive Director ng Healthcare Without Harm - Southeast Asia.


"If there’s a way to make use of it, recycle it, project in school. Find ways to repurpose it or reuse it. Disposing it will just add up more pollution and that is something the government has not thought of," dagdag niya.


Ayon naman sa National Solid Waste Management Commission, huwag munang itapon ang mga face shield hangga't hindi pa natatapos ang pandemya dahil posibleng kailanganin muli ito. Dagdag nila, puwede rin itong i-recycyle basta i-sanitize.


“If they want to convert into parols, torotot, disinfect lang. Those face shields naman, it’s not coming from hospital. These are not hospital waste. These are technically not infectious," ani NSWMC Vice Chairman Commissioner Crispian Lao.


Samantala, nagpaalala ang DENR sa mga lokal na pamahalaan na responsibilidad nila ang pagkolekta at tamang pag-dispose ng mga face shield na dapat dumaraan sa mga accredited na ahensiya.
