Bukod sa SC... Korte sa NCR, suspendido

Mananatiling sarado ang mga korte sa National Capital Region (NCR), maliban lamang sa Supreme Court (SC), sa kabila ng pagluluwag ng gobyerno sa restriksiyon sa Metro Manila simula Miyerkules.

Ayon kay Court Administrator Midas Marquez, ginawa ni Chief Justice Alexander Gesmundo ang desisyon dahil sa patuloy na pagtaas ng COVID-19 cases at ang pagpapatupad ng granular lockdowns sa Metro Manila upang mabawasan ang pagkalat ng virus.

Ang rehiyon ay isasailalim sa general community quarantine (GCQ) simula Setyembre 8 hanggang 30.

Gayunman, sinabi ni Marquez na ang mga korte ay magpapatuloy na mag-operate online at magsasagawa ng mga video conferencing hearings para sa mga pending cases at iba pang transaksyon, ito man ay urgent o hindi.

Subalit, ayon kay Marquez ang pag-file at services ng pleadings at motions sa panahon ng GCQ ay suspendido pa rin habang ito ay mag-resume matapos ang seven calendar days mula sa unang araw ng pisikal na pagbubukas ng naturang mga korte.

“The essential judicial offices shall maintain the necessary skeleton staff to enable them to address all urgent matters and concerns,” pahayag ni Marquez sa isang circular na inisyu ngayong Martes.

Bukod sa SC, ang mga korte na matatagpuan sa Metro Manila ay ang Court of Appeals, Court of Tax Appeals, Sandiganbayan, at ang mga trial courts.

Dating Supreme Court Justice Priscilla Baltazar-Padilla, pumanaw na

Pumanaw na si dating Supreme Court Associate Justice Priscilla J. Baltazar-Padilla noong Biyernes sa edad na 63.

Ayon sa inilabas na pahayag ng SC, “The Judiciary mourns the passing on 27 Aug 2021 of its 188th Associate Justice, Hon. Priscilla J. Baltazar-Padilla.

“She served the judiciary for more than two decades, starting as an MeTC Judge in 1996, until her appointment to the SC in 16 July 2020. She retired on 3 Nov. 2020.”

Nagsilbi rin si Padilla bilang associate justice ng Court of Appeals simula noong 2006.

Mahigit 17 taon ding nagturo si Padilla sa Lyceum of the Philippines, New Era University, Universidad de Manila, at University of the East, ayon sa SC Public Information Office.

Samantala, hindi binanggit ng SC ang dahilan ng pagpanaw ni Padilla.

Supreme Court lang ang bukas… Mga korte sa MECQ areas, sarado hanggang sa Sept. 7

Mananatiling sarado ang mga korte sa mga lugar na isinailalim sa modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) katulad ng Metro Manila hanggang sa Setyembre 7 maliban sa Supreme Court, ayon sa Office of the Court Administrator (OCA) ngayong Sabado.

Sa ilalim ng Circular No. 114-2021, base sa utos ni Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo, saad ni Court Administrator Jose Midas Marquez, “All courts in the NCR and identified areas under MECQ, except the Supreme Court, shall be PHYSICALLY CLOSED to court users for the duration of the MECQ. They shall continue to operate online and conduct videoconferencing hearings only for urgent incident and cases, such as, but not limited to, applications for bail, releases due to dismissal of cases or acquittal, habeas corpus, applications for temporary protection orders for Violence Against Women and Children cases, and analogous circumstances."
