Pormal na nagbitiw bilang pangulo at chief executive officer (CEO) ng Philippine Long Distance Telecommunications (PLDT) si Chairman Manny Pangilinan (MVP).


Sa ginanap na virtual annual stockholders meeting ng kumpanya kahapon, ayon kay Pangilinan, ang kanyang tungkulin bilang pangulo at CEO ng PLDT ay ibibigay niya kay PLDT Chief Revenue Officer at Smart Communications President and CEO Alfredo Panlilio.


“I now lay down my charge, I will continue to be your chairman and as such I will always follow the affairs and fortunes of our company with profound interest,” ani MVP.


Inianunsiyo ni Pangilinan ang pagbibitiw sa gitna ng matinding kompetisyong kinakaharap sa tinaguriang telco “duopoly” ng Globe Telecom at PLDT kasama na rin ang pagdating ng DITO Telecommunity.


Noong nakaraang buwan, sinabi ni Pangilinan na si Panlilio ang kanyang magiging successor sa ginanap na first quarter results ng kumpanya sa press briefing dahil si Panlilio ay nagsisilbing chief revenue officer ng PLDT at president at CEO ng Smart Communications.

Magsisimula na ang DITO Telecommunity Corporation bilang pangatlong telecommunication provider sa bansa ngayong darating na ika-8 ng Marso sa mahigit labing-pitong bayan at munisipalidad ng Visayas at Mindanao.


Base sa unang technical audit na isinagawa ng gobyerno, pumasa ang DITO Telecom matapos makapagtala ng minimum average broadband speed na 85.9 Mbps para sa 4G at 507.5 Mbps naman para sa 5G.

Paliwanag ng DITO chief administrative officer na si Adel Tamano sa isang virtual press conference noong Martes, Pebrero 23, “It’s a phased launch. We are going to first start in Mindanao. There’s a sentimental reason for that, if you recall before DITO became DITO, we were the Mindanao Islamic Telephone Company (MISLATEL). It was actually set up to serve the underserved areas in Mindanao. We thought it fitting to start there.”


Kasabay nu’n ay nang ihayag ang ‘interconnection deal’ sa pagitan ng DITO at PLDT na may layuning makapagpatayo ng transmission facility na magsisilbing point of interconnection para sa mga konsumer nila.


“Being chosen as the country’s third player, DITO knew from day 1 that in order for us to deliver our commitment to the Filipino, we needed to work hand-in-hand with the pioneers of the telco industry like PLDT. I’d like to express my gratitude to everyone in making the interconnection agreement between DITO and PLDT possible,” pahayag naman ni DITO Telecommunity Chairman and CEO Dennis Uy.


Sisimulan na rin ng DITO ang pagbebenta ng sim cards at ang mga sumusunod na numero ay ang magiging prefixes digits ng kanilang subscribers: 0991, 0992, 0993, 0994, 0898, 089, 0896, at 0895.
