Ire-review ng Commission on Elections (Comelec) ang request ni Vice President Leni Robredo na ipagpatuloy ang kanyang pandemic initiatives sa kasagsagan ng campaign period.
Ayon kay Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez, ie-evaluate pa ng poll body kung ang pandemic response efforts na pinangungunahan ni Robredo ay para mapunan ang pangangailangan ng mga mamamayan.
“That is still being evaluated, if I am not mistaken. The law department has to evaluate the request first to see if it fulfills a humanitarian need. Normally exemptions to election bans can be granted on humanitarian grounds to see whether or not kailangan talaga siya (it is really needed or not), so it will be along those lines,” ani Jimenez.
Pormal na nag-request sa Comelec si Robredo upang bigyang-pahintulot ang pandemic efforts ng Office of the Vice President kabilang ang Swab Cab, Bayanihan E-Konsulta, at Vaccine Express na magpatuloy kahit panahon ng kampanyahan para sa national candidates.
Sa ilalim ng Section 13 ng Comelec Resolution No. 10747, sinasabi rito na “candidates are required to secure a certificate of exception for projects, activities, and programs of social welfare projects and services”.
Noong nakaraang eleksiyon, exempted ang disaster relief operations sa kautusang ito, ayon kay Jimenez.
