Maynilad spends over P240-billion for the West Zone

Metro Pacific-DMCI-Marubeni-led Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) has invested more than P240 billion in service enhancement projects from 2007 to 2023, to improve services and expand distribution coverage in the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area.

Among major projects that the West Zone concessionaire implemented during the said period are the laying of 6,821 kilometers of new water pipelines; rehabilitation of old and inoperative facilities; installation of valves and other measuring devices throughout the water infrastructure network; construction of additional facilities including 30 new pumping stations, 28 new reservoirs, five new water treatments plants, and 20 new wastewater treatments plants; and the development of new water sources particularly in its southern area.

Investments for 2023

For this year alone, Maynilad is spending more than P24 billion to improve and expand its water and wastewater services, which is a capital outlay increase of around 71% compared to last year’s P14-billion spending.

Some P4 billion of that capital disbursement went towards enhancing Maynilad’s sewerage and sanitation drive while P8.5 billion was used for the upgrade and construction of key facilities to improve water service levels. Nearly P3.2 billion was spent for the company’s aggressive Non-Revenue Water (NRW) reduction program.

Job Creation

The accelerated implementation of Maynilad’s Capex projects from 2007 to 2023 has generated almost 445,000 jobs, which include those generated by Maynilad’s contractors and suppliers.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) in the Philippines in terms of customer base. Its service area includes the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres and Sta. Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of Holy Spirit and Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas, and Malabon, all in Metro Manila; and the cities of Cavite, Bacoor, and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta, and Rosario, all in the province of Cavite.

Maynilad to give higher discount for low-income lifeline customers

West Zone concessionaire Maynilad Water Services, Inc. (Maynilad) is launching an Enhanced Lifeline Program (ELP) that will give a higher discount on the water bills of qualified low-income and low-consuming residential customers.

Maynilad already provides a 41% discount on the Basic Charge of its “Regular Lifeline”

customers, or those whose monthly consumption does not exceed 10 cubic meters. But under the ELP, those “Regular Lifeline” customers who are also marginalized—i.e., beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) Act, or customers living below the poverty line, as determined by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD)—can apply and qualify for a higher discount on their water bills.

To be implemented starting January 1, 2024, the ELP was launched after the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System – Regulatory Office (MWSS-RO) urged Maynilad to extend a discount not only to its low-consuming customers but also to its marginalized customers, as they are the ones who stand to benefit greatly from the savings that the “Low-Income Lifeline Rate” will yield.

Customers who are qualified for the “Low-Income Lifeline” Rate can apply by submitting a completed application form, their latest water bill, and a photocopy of their 4Ps identification to any Maynilad Business Area office or Maynilad Barangay Helpdesk. For non-4Ps beneficiaries, a local Social Welfare and Development Office certification and photocopy of one government ID are required.

Applications for the “Low-Income Lifeline” Rate will start on November 13, 2023. More

Maynilad currently has over 320,000 “Regular Lifeline” customers, and the company expects around 60,000 “Low-Income Lifeline” customers to apply for the higher discount under the ELP.

“There are many poor households within our concession area that can benefit from availing of the Low-Income Lifeline Rate, so we encourage all qualified customers to apply to the program,” said Maynilad Customer Experience and Retail Operations Head Christopher J. Lichauco.

Maynilad is the largest private water concessionaire in the Philippines in terms of customer base. It is the concessionaire of Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) for the West Zone of the Greater Manila Area, which is composed of the cities of Manila (certain portions), Quezon City (certain portions), Makati (west of South Super Highway), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila; the cities of Cavite, Bacoor and Imus, and the towns of Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario, all in Cavite Province.

Angat Dam, malapit na sa target elevation

Nakapagtala ng pag-akyat sa antas ng tubig sa Angat Dam, ang pinagmumulan ng malinis na tubig at enerhiya para sa Metro Manila, ayon sa ulat ng Maynilad Water Services, Inc.

Sa isang pahayag, iniulat ng Maynilad na umabot sa 209.20 metro ang antas ng Angat Dam, na 0.67 metro mas mataas kaysa sa tala noong nakaraang linggo.

Sa pagkukumpara, noong nakaraang pagsusuri, nasa 208.53 metro ang antas ng dam na mas mataas kaysa sa minimum na antas na 180 metro para sa operasyon nito.

Malapit na sa target elevation na itinakda ng Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) ang kasalukuyang antas ng tubig sa Angat Dam na inaasahan na nasa pagitan ng 210 metro at 212 metro sa pagtatapos ng taon.

Kapag naabot na ng dam ang target, sinabi ng Maynilad na makakatulong ito sa pagtugon sa pangangailangan ng tubig, lalo na sa panahon ng El Niño.

Samantala, nananatili sa antas na 100.58 metro ang tubig sa Ipo Dam, na matatagpuan 7.5 kilometro pababa mula sa Angat, mula pa noong nakaraang linggo.

Inihinto rin ng Maynilad ang pansamantalang mga pahinto-hinto na serbisyo ng tubig sa Caloocan, Malabon, Manila, Navotas, Quezon City, at Valenzuela hanggang sa magkaroon ng karagdagang abiso.
