Inaasahang magiging maayos ang daloy ng trapiko sa Maynila sa muling pagbubukas ng bagong-rehabilitadong Lagusnilad vehicular underpass ngayong Martes.

Kinumpirma ni Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna na magiging malaki ang kaluwagan nito sa trapiko.

Matatandaang nagdulot ng mabigat na trapiko ang pagsasara ng Lagusnilad para sa rehabilitasyon nito na nagsimula nu'ng Mayo.

Kasama sa P75-milyong rehabilitasyon ang pag-aayos sa pumping system, daanan ng kanal, at pagkakumpuni ng mga butas sa kalsada.

Naglagay rin ng mga ilaw at solar studs ang mga awtoridad para sa seguridad ng mga motorista.

Samantala, ikinatuwa ng mga drayber ng Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) ang pagbubukas nitong muli dahil luluwag ang mga kalsada.

Manila Int'l Marathon babalik sa Pebrero 2024

Magbabalik ang isa sa pinamakasaysayang karera sa Pilipinas, ang "Manila International Marathon: Run For Awareness", sa Pebrero 24, 2024. Asahan ang isang mabilis at kalidad na takbuhan sa patag na daan na magsisimula at magtatapos sa Rizal Park at iikot din sa mga lungsod ng Pasay, Paranaque at Makati.

Ayon kay race organizer Dino Jose sa kanyang panayam sa BULGAR Sports Beat podcast, espesyal ang parating na karera at bahagi ng malilikom na pondo ay mapupunta sa mga sundalo na nakadestino sa BRP Sierra Madre sa Ayungin Shoal sa West Philippine Sea. May nakalaan din na tulong para sa Philippine Coast Guard.

Upang maangat ang kalidad, makakalahok ng libre ang mga mananakbong may patunay na umoras sila na hindi lalampas ng 2:35:00 at may diskwento ang mga may oras na mas mababa sa tatlong oras. Ito ay limitado sa unang 200 lamang.

Maliban sa Marathon, may mga karera din sa 21, 10 at limang kilometro. Ginaganap na ang pagpapalista online sa manilamarathon.com hanggang Pebrero 21, 2024 o umabot ng 5,000 kalahok kung ano man ang mauna.

Lahat ng mga magtatapos ng ay tatanggap ng medalya, t-shirt at regalo mula sa mga sponsor. Ang mga kampeon ng kalalakihan at kababaihan ay kakatawanin ang Pilipinas sa Taiwan International Marathon sa Nobyembre, 2024.

Ang 1982 Manila International Marathon ang unang karerang Pinoy na kinilala ng AIMS, ang samahan ng mga malalaking patakbo sa buong mundo. Noong taon na iyon, nagkampeon si 1976 at 1980 Olympic gold medalist Waldemar Cierpinski ng Silangang Alemanya sa oras na 2:14:27 na hanggang ngayon ay ang pinakamabilis na Marathon na itinakbo sa Pilipinas.

Nais ni Jose at kanyang mga kasama Manuel Oyao at Race Director Red Dumuk na mabuhay muli ang sigla ng takbuhan gaya noong simula ng Dekada 80. Ang tatlo ay may malawak na karanasan sa pag-organisa ng mga karera noong panahon na iyon at handang gamitin ito upang hubugin ang bagong henerasyon.

UST tops off Henry Sy, Sr. Hall at Manila campus

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) held the topping off ceremony of the Henry Sy, Sr. Hall last October 7, 2023. The ceremony is a builder’s tradition that highlights the placement of the final beam on top of the structure.

The seven-storey building is a tribute of the Sy family, the SM Group, and UST to the SM founder for his life-long education advocacy. It is equally a manifestation of the ever-growing desire of the UST Research and Endowment Foundation, Inc., Anargyroi: FMS Foundation, Inc. (AFI) and the 152-year old UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery (FMS) to further level up in the field of medicine.

The Henry Sy, Sr. Hall will serve as a hub for simulation in medical education, interactive student centered-learning, collaborative multidisciplinary research, and interprofessional education. It will house the Sts. Cosmas and Damian Simulation and Research Center.

“The Henry Sy, Sr. Hall will be a state-of-the-art structure designed to meet the challenges and expectations of a digitally-inclined medical education landscape. It will house technologically advanced facilities and equipment, which will complement the existing teaching, learning, and research practices of the University. It is yet another milestone, securing the UST FMS a relevant spot, a significant spot in Catholic medical education in the country, the region, and the world.” FMS Dean Dr. Ma. Lourdes Maglinao said about the Henry Sy. Sr. Hall.

“Medical students can access a broad range of digital tools and resources to enhance their learning and education as we were compelled to shift to e-learning and online course platforms,” UST Rector, Very Rev. Fr. Richard G. Ang, O.P., said.

“Nowadays, keeping up with the advances in medical education is paramount to ensure that our students are competent, agile, and well-prepared to meet the challenges and opportunities of the ever-changing educational landscape of modern medicine, and this building, this edifice, will give us state-of-the-art equipment, which will give our medical students a cutting-edge knowledge on how to use robotics as well as other equipment,” Fr. Ang added.
