Tinatayang nasa 20 migrante ang nawawala matapos tumaob ang kanilang bangka sa Mediterranean ngayong linggo, ayon sa ahensya ng UN para sa mga refugee at sa Italian coast guard. Nakaligtas ang pitong Syrian at dinala sa Lampedusa, Italy.
Sinabi ng coast guard na nakita ng mga lokal na otoridad ang lumulubog na bangka mga 10 milya sa timog-kanluran ng isla. Sinabi ni Chiara Cardoletti, ang kinatawan ng UNHCR, sa X na nasa kritikal na kondisyon ang pitong nakaligtas at marami sa kanila ang nawalan ng mga kamag-anak.
Iniulat ng coast guard na 28 tao ang umalis mula sa Libya noong Setyembre 1, ngunit 21, kabilang ang tatlong bata, ang nahulog sa dagat dahil sa masamang panahon. Nagsasagawa naman ng search at rescue operations ang naval unit at coast guard para sa kanila.
