Umakyat na sa 34 ang bilang ng mga nasawi sa naganap na magnitude 6.2 na lindol sa West Sulawesi, Indonesia ngayong Biyernes nang umaga, ayon sa awtoridad. Pahayag ni Ali Rahman, head of the local disaster mitigation agency, 26 sa mga nasawi ay mula sa Mamuju City.
Aniya, “The latest information we have is that 26 people are dead… in Mamuju City. That number could grow but we hope it won't... Many of the dead are buried under rubble." Ayon naman sa national disaster agency, tinatayang aabot sa 8 katao ang nasawi sa south ng Mamuju.
Samantala, patuloy pa ring nagsasagawa ng search and rescue operations at nagbabala na ang meteorological agency sa posibilidad na aftershocks at tsunami. Pahayag ni Dwikorita Karnawati, chief of the meteorological agency, “The aftershocks could be as strong, or stronger, than this morning’s quake.
“There is potential for a tsunami from subsequent aftershocks… Don’t wait for a tsunami first because they can happen very quickly.”
