Inaprubahan na ng Inter-Agency Task Force (IATF) ang pagkakaroon ng nationwide mock elections sa Disyembre 29, ayon sa Malacañang ngayong Biyernes.
Sinabi ni acting presidential spokesperson Karlo Nograles na pinayagan nila ang pagsasagawa ng national mock polls dahil aniya, “to ensure the safe and effective conduct of the May 2022 elections.”
Una nang nagsagawa ang Commission on Elections (Comelec) ng isang voting simulation sa San Juan City noong Oktubre 23.
Noong nakaraang linggo, iminungkahi naman ni dating Comelec commissioner Luie Guia na ang ratio ng mga botante per clustered precinct sa 2022 elections ay dapat nasa tinatayang 500 hanggang 600 per clustered precinct lamang dahil na rin sa COVID-19 pandemic.
“With one optical scanner [per precinct], there were several people who will line up, so that [ratio] is my estimate,” paliwanag ni Guia.
Suhestiyon naman ni Atty. Ona Caritos, ng election watchdog na Legal Network for Truthful Elections o LENTE, na dapat mag-reschedule ang Comelec ng mock polls para magkaroon ng mas mahusay na assessment kung paano maisasagawa ang May 2022 polls ng ligtas sa gitna ng pandemya.
“A lot of people are on vacation around that time [December 29]. Maybe the Comelec can reschedule the mock polls to the first or second week of January so that more people will be able to participate,” saad ni Caritos.
Gayunman, ayon kay Comelec spokesperson James Jimenez nitong Sabado, ito ay magiging “ligtas” na i-accommodate ng hanggang 800 voters para sa bawat clustered precinct.
“Obviously, we want to reduce the number of voters per clustered precinct, but we also need to increase the number of [vote counting] machines as well… However, right now, it looks like we cannot get additional machines,” ani Jimenez sa isang radio interview.
