Binawi ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang desisyon ng Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) na luwagan ang age restriction sa mga lugar na nasa ilalim ng modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) at kailangang manatili pa rin umano ang mga batang edad 10-14 sa loob ng bahay dahil sa banta ng UK variant ng COVID-19 sa bansa.

Pahayag ni P-Duterte, “You just return to your homes for now… The older ones are hard to manage, but those 10, 11, 12 [years old] can glue their attention to the TV the whole day.

“I am sorry. Mine is just a precaution. I am afraid because the new strain strikes the young children.”

Aniya pa, “Just to be sure and in our desire to protect our people, I am constrained to reimpose the 10 to 14 [restriction]. Not at this time. It’s a sacrifice for the parents and children. It would limit their movements.”

Samantala, ayon sa Metro Manila Council, maging ang 17 mayors ay hindi rin pabor na payagan nang lumabas ang mga bata.

Saad pa ni Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez, council chief, “Metro Manila is under GCQ so the task force allowed the local governments in Metro Manila to assess if they would allow the age [restrictions] to be relaxed.

“The consensus in one of our meetings was almost everyone was against relaxing the age bracket. But despite that, we also sought the recommendation, comment, advice of medical experts, pediatric consultants.

“What [the medical experts] said was it’s not advisable to lower the age bracket.

“According to [the health experts], kids are superspreaders. When they catch the virus, they’re asymptomatic and appear healthy, but can easily and surely infect the elderly.”

Edad 10-14, papayagan na ring lumabas

Maaari nang lumabas ang mga edad 10 hangggang 65 sa mga lugar na nasa ilalim ng modified general community quarantine (MGCQ) simula sa February 1 ngunit kailangang kasama ng mga bata ang kanilang magulang, ayon sa Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) noong Linggo.

Paglilinaw ni Cabinet Secretary and IATF Co-Chairperson Karlo Nograles, “Hindi naman basta-basta lalabas ‘yan kung hindi kasama ang magulang. Meron po tayong panibagong clarificatory resolution na ilalabas na ‘yung paglabas ng bata is dapat kasama ang magulang para ma-supervise.”

Aniya pa, “Sa ibang bansa po, hindi sila kasing restrictive po natin sa galawan ng mga kabataan. Sa ibang bansa po, hindi nila ikinukulong ang mga bata sa loob ng tahanan. As far as pag-survey naman sa iba’t ibang ginagawa ng bansa, tayo po ‘yung pinaka-restrictive.”

Nagdesisyon din ang IATF na luwagan na ang age restriction dahil “manageable” umano ang kaso ng COVID-19.

Aniya, “Nakita namin na after Christmas holidays, manageable naman ang cases natin per day, nagkadesisyon kami na babaan ang age restriction to 10.”

PRC licensure exams, puwede na uli

Pinayagan na ng Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) ang Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) na isagawa ang licensure examinations sa unang tatlong buwan ng taon, ayon sa pahayag ng Malacañang ngayong Biyernes.

Matatandaang ipinagpaliban noong nakaraang taon ng PRC ang licensure examinations na nakaiskedyul mula Oktubre hanggang Disyembre upang maiwasan ang mass gatherings dahil sa posibleng pagkalat ng coronavirus infections.

"The request of the Professional Regulation Commission to conduct and administer the licensure examinations for professionals scheduled for January to March 2021 was approved," ani Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque kasabay ng lingguhang pulong ng IATF.

Ilan sa nakaiskedyul na kukuha ng PRC exams ngayong unang quarter ng taon ay ang mga medical technologists, architects, veterinarians, physical therapists, geologists, psychologists, mechanical engineers, graduates of medicine, at teachers. Makikita rin sa kanilang website ang buong listahan ng PRC exams.

Una nang nabanggit ng commission na pinag-aaralan nilang palitan ang pen-and-paper test at gawing online na lamang para maiwasan ang pagkalat ng COVID-19.

"We might be able to start with the smaller boards which may be more manageable," ani PRC Chairman Teofilo Pilando Jr. sa naganap na Senate hearing noong Oktubre.
