Pumanaw na ang presidente ng Tanzania na si John Magufuli sa edad na 61 dahil sa heart complications noong Miyerkules.
Ayon kay Tanzania Vice-President Samia Suluhu Hassan sa public address, sa ospital sa Dar es Salaam binawian ng buhay si Magufuli.
Aniya, "It is with deep regret that I inform you that today... we lost our brave leader, the president of the Republic of Tanzania, John Pombe Magufuli."
Dalawang linggong hindi nakita ng publiko si Magufuli at nagkaroon ng usap-usapang positibo siya sa COVID-19 ngunit hindi ito kinumpirma ng kanyang kampo.
Ayon kay Hassan, magkakaroon ng 14-day national mourning dahil sa pagkamatay ni Magufuli.
Samantala, sa ilalim ng konstitusyon ng Tanzania tungkol sa pagkamatay ng lider ng bansa, napapaloob sa Artikulo 37(5) na:
“The Office of the President becomes vacant by reason of death, resignation, loss of electoral qualifications or inability to perform his functions due to physical infirmity or failure to discharge the duties and functions of the Office of the President, then the Vice-President shall be sworn in and become the President for the unexpired period of the term of five years and in accordance with conditions set in Article 40.”
