6 kumpanya, binigyan ng 25-year franchise extension ni P-Du30

Nilagdaan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte ang mga measures kaugnay ng pagbibigay ng 25-year franchise extension sa anim na kumpanya, batay sa ipinakitang dokumento na nai-share ng Malacañang.

Inaprubahan ni Pangulong Duterte ang mga sumusunod na batas:

• Republic Act No. 11664 renewing for another 25 years the franchise granted to Franciscan Broadcasting Corporation.

• Republic Act No. 11665 renewing for another 25 years the franchise granted to Iriga Telephone Company, Inc.

• Republic Act No. 11666 renewing for another 25 years the franchise granted to Soundstream Broadcasting Corporation.

• Republic Act No. 11667 renewing for another 25 years the franchise granted to Nation Broadcasting Corporation of the Philippines.

• Republic Act No. 11668 renewing for another 25 years the franchise granted to GV Broadcasting System, Inc. or Cignal TV

• Republic Act No. 11669 renewing for another 25 years the franchise granted to Enrique M. Orozco and Sons, Inc. or Real Radio Network, Inc.

Bukod dito, binigyan din ng Pangulo ng franchise ang University of Southern Mindanao upang i-maintain at i-operate ang radio broadcasting stations para magamit na pang-edukasyon at katulad nito sa Cotabato province.

Renewal ng prangkisa ng ABS-CBN, isinusulong ni Sotto

Isinusulong ni Senate President Vicente Sotto III na i-renew ang prangkisa ng ABS-CBN na na-expire noong nakaraang taon. Sa pamamagitan ng Senate Bill No. 1967, nais ni Sotto na mabigyan ang ABS-CBN ng bagong license to operate sa loob ng 25 taon.

Pahayag ni Sotto, "I noticed the TV stations have been replacing their news programs with animes. It means competition is absent and mediocrity is creeping in because of the absence of a strong competitor like ABS-CBN.

"ABS-CBN's wide reach to Filipinos, alongside with the undeniable advantages of broadcast media relative to mass communication, definitely call for the immediate renewal of the network's franchise.”
