P57M halaga ng medical equipment, donasyon ng Australia sa ‘Pinas

Nasa P57 milyon halaga ng mga medical equipment, suplay at personal protective equipment (PPE) ang ibinigay ng Australian government kahapon sa Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

Sa isang statement ng AFP ngayong Miyerkules, sina Department of National Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana at AFP chief Lieutenant General Jose Faustino Jr., ang opisyal na tumanggap ng donasyon ng Australia sa isang ceremony sa Pier 15, South Harbor sa Manila.

Ilan sa mga items na donasyon ng Australia ay high flow oxygen machines, stretchers, defibrillators, disinfection kits, Automated RNA Extraction kit, Viral RNA Extraction kit, RT-PCR Reagents at Detection kit, face masks, face shields, PPE level 3 at level 4 sets, eye protectors at KN95 masks.

Ayon sa AFP, ang mga medical equipment ay ide-deliver sa Victoriano Luna Medical Center (VLMC) bilang suporta sa kanilang COVID-19 response, mga testing efforts at kapasidad para sa hospitalization ng mga minor hanggang sa mga critical patients ng pagamutan.

Sinabi ni Lorenzana na pinalawak ng Defense Cooperation Program ng Australia ang pagtulong sa mga pangangailangan sa COVID-19 pandemic ng mga sundalong Pilipino. “Certainly, these donations will ramp up the day-to-day clinical management and quality of care and service which AFP’s medical arm is expected to provide,” ani Lorenzana.

Labis naman ang kasiyahan ni Australian Ambassador to the Philippines Steven Robinson na nakatulong ang kanyang bansa sa pamamagitan ng pagbibigay ng mabilis at agarang suporta sa pangangailangan ng Pilipinas.

“These additional medical and personal protective equipment will be critical in VLMC’s COVID-19 testing efforts, and treatment of COVID patients,” sabi ni Robinson.

Pinasalamatan din ni Faustino ang Australian government at nangakong ang kanilang mga donasyon ay gagamitin sa nararapat at tamang paraan.

Nagpositibo si Armed Forces chief Lieutenant General Jose Faustino Jr. sa COVID-19 matapos na sumailalim sa isang RT-PCR test ngayong Lunes. “I received confirmation that I have tested positive to COVID-19 with the result of my RT-PCR this afternoon,” ani Faustino sa isang statement.

Ayon kay Faustino na fully vaccinated na, “I’m in high spirits to continue performing my job, albeit in quarantine.” “I will remain in command of the AFP but will continue to follow the prescribed isolation protocol to ensure the safety of those I work with and my family,” sabi pa niya.

Sinabi ng AFP chief na nais pa rin niyang dumalo virtually sa gaganaping Western Mindanao Command Change of Command Ceremony bukas sa kabila ng kanyang kondisyon.

“Allow me to take this opportunity to encourage everyone to support our government's vaccination efforts and to get inoculated with a COVID-19 vaccine whenever and wherever they can,” dagdag din ni Faustino.

Gayundin, sa press conference kaninang umaga, sinabi ni AFP spokesperson Colonel Ramon Zagala na ang AFP chief ay nagpositibo sa test sa COVID-19 gamit ang antigen test.

Hidilyn Diaz, staff sergeant na ng AFP

Ipinahayag ni Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Cirilito Sobejana ngayong Miyerkules na si weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz ay binigyan ng promosyon bilang staff sergeant rank matapos na magwagi ng unang gold medal ng bansa sa 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Sa isang statement, sinabi ni Sobejana na ang promosyon ni Diaz ay inaprubahan ng Philippine Air Force nitong Hulyo 27. “The Philippine Air Force through its Commanding General approved the promotion of Sgt Hidilyn Diaz effective 27 July 2021 to the rank of Staff Sergeant,” ani Sobejana.

“We laud and support this move at the General Headquarters to mark SSg Diaz’ remarkable achievements in the field of sports and for bringing pride and glory to our country,” dagdag ng opsiyal. Pinuri ni Sobejana si Diaz sa kanyang husay at determinasyon habang sinabing labis siyang ipinagmamalaki ng AFP.

Nitong Lunes, nakamit ni Diaz ang kauna-unahang gold medal ng bansa sa Olympics nang magwagi siya sa women’s 55-kg weightlifting event ng 2020 Tokyo Olympics na ginanap sa Tokyo International Forum.

Ang pagkapanalo ni Diaz ang tumapos sa halos century-long Olympic gold medal drought ng Pilipinas mula nang sumali ang bansa sa games noong 1924. Mula noon ang bansa ay nagwagi lamang ng 3 silvers at 7 bronze medals. Gayundin, si Diaz ay nagwagi na ng silver medal sa women’s 53-kg category sa 2016 Rio Olympics.
