Gumawa ng history sa South Korean entertainment ang veteran actress na si Youn Yuh Jung sa katatapos lamang na British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
Si Youn Yuh Jung ang nanalong Best Supporting Actress sa BAFTA for her critically-acclaimed performance sa pelikulang Minari, making her the first-ever Korean actress to win an acting award sa nasabing prestigious award-giving body.
Ginanap ang awarding ceremony last April 11 sa Royal Albert Hall sa London and was broadcasted virtually.
Ilang oras lang matapos tanggapin ang award, nag-viral agad ang 73-year-old actress dahil sa kanyang acceptance speech which she delivered in English.
Sa nasabing acceptance speech ay nagpahayag ng pakikiramay si Youn Yuh Jung sa pagpanaw ng Duke of Edinburgh na si Prince Philip.
“I don’t know how to say this, I’m very honored to be nominated — no, no, I’m the winner now. First, I’d like to express my deep condolences for your Duke of Edinburgh,” pahayag ng aktres.
Aniya, sobrang meaningful ang award sa kanya dahil ibinigay ito ng British people na kilala sa pagiging snobbish.
“Thank you for this award. Every award is meaningful, but this one especially. Recognized by British people, known as very snobbish people, and they approved me as a good actor, so I’m very, very privileged and happy,” sey pa ng aktres at maririnig ang tawanan sa background dahil sa kanyang tinuran.
“Thank you, thank you so much. Thank you for the voters who voted for me. Thank you very much, BAFTA,” muli niyang pasasalamat.
Sa ngayon ay humahakot na si Youn ng 32 awards para sa Minari mula sa iba’t ibang award-giving bodies both internationally and locally.
She’s next contending at the 93rd Academy Awards na gaganapin sa April 25 kung saan ay nominado rin siya bilang Best Supporting Actress.
